dj done that

DJ DoneThat got married at a young age, 18yrs old, based on what at that time was an incredible life. He had started deejaying in the 9th grade, and because of his exceptional talent was making great money at such a young age.

He deejayed back then for or with many different artists… Dr. Dre, Sir Mix-A-Lot, etc…. and can say that back then, Rick Rock was in his crew (they met because they both attended Armio High School). DJ DoneThat ended up joining a crew called Grand Illusion, which even included deejaying with Mix Master Mike for a time. They would go around the bay area deejaying allot of major events for some big name artists, and of course being involved in allot of big time deejay battles. DJ DoneThat was the main deejay in Grand Illusion, doing most of the set-up and sound and what-not.

While in Grand Illusion, DJ DoneThat met and married a young lady, and broke off from the crew and began doing his own thang as a solo deejay. He was so successful that he was able to buy his own house at 21yrs of age, had a number of cars that were fixed up, his 1st son was born… life was incredible by the world’s standards! But, DJ DoneThat will tell you himself that back then he still felt something was missing.

In searching for that something, DJ DoneThat began doing nightclub deejaying, and through the type of people he was hanging around, began doing drugs. Within about a year, he had lost just about everything because of his commitment to drugs. At a certain point during this time in his life, a buddy that he was cool with had started cookin’ crystal/crank and would give him crank for free. DJ DoneThat says, “at that point I had basically become a dope fiend. No music… no deejaying… no family… nothing but dope. I went from having what seemed like everything, to having nothing but my love for drugs.”

One day, DJ DoneThat was in the apartment of a friend he was staying with along with this girl he was dating. They were watchin’ TV and in the show they were watching one of the characters talked about seeing an angel and how that had changed his life. DJ DoneThat recalls saying out loud at that moment, “man… I need an angel!” The others in the room sort of brushed off his comment, but the conviction on DJ DoneThat’s heart was strong. Later that evening, while the girl he was seeing was lying in the bed, DJ DoneThat was on his knees next to the bed… having very little experience with church in his life up to that point, he was doing the best he knew to do in reaching out to God… with the girl in the bed criticizing him and thinking he was on some sort of trip, DJ DoneThat just kept saying, “God please send me an angel!”

The next morning, DJ DoneThat’s friend told him there was a guy at the door for him. Coming to the door to see who it was, there stood his friend Adam… someone he hadn’t seen in quite a while. Adam was a friend that DJ DoneThat used to both sell and use drugs with. They often would travel from Northern California down to the Los Angeles area to cop (to get drugs to bring back to the bay area to use/sell). They began talking, and Adam started sharing with him about a bunch of crazy stuff that had happened last time Adam was in LA. He mentioned being at a place called Victory Outreach in Los Angeles, and having given his life to God and getting saved! Adam then said that the night before, he was praying, and he heard God tell him to go visit DJ DoneThat. It turns out that, when DJ DoneThat was on his knees praying the night before, asking God to send him an angel, was the same time that God told Adam to go visit him! In that conversation DJ DoneThat accepted Christ, and within the next week or so began attending Victory Outreach in Fairfield, Ca!

DJ DoneThat says, “God gave me the vision for Upperoom, the company I started & own. A vision that included three things… deejaying, sound reinforcement for huge shows and what-not, and for doing studio type stuff. At the time God gave me the vision, I was only a Deejay. When I questioned to understand, God showed me Psalms 102:18, and said that He’s going to use what I’m doing to reach the next generation! In the past 7yrs, God has honored my commitment to him and his calling on my life… everything I had back when I FIRST started deejaying, I now have again! I’ve opened for Mary Mary, Tonex, Canton Jones, etc… I’m now remarried and enjoying what God has been doing in my life, and in the lives of others through what He has called me to do!”
